All Stars Kids Club took over from the Bright'uns Sunshine Holiday Club in November 2008.

The Club provides a very stimulating, fun and safe school holiday programme for children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities ensuring that the needs of Canterbury children, their parents, their siblings and extended family are met. All the children that attend our programme are either physically and/or intellectually disabled (ie. downs syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy to name a few) and require one-on-one (sometimes two-on-one) supervision at all times. Some of the children can't walk and are in wheelchairs, others can't talk so there are a number of challenges that our volunteers have to handle.

Another thing that make us unique is the fact that the majority of our volunteers are teenagers, who under the supervision of the Supervisors and Assistant do a fantastic job supporting the children. There are a few siblings who volunteer, this programme not only gives the family a break but it also gives these siblings the opportunity to meet, discuss their issues and support others in the same situation.

Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:

Existing sponsors or funders: We rely heavily on the Ministry of Health fees we receive but these fees do not cover all costs so we are very hopeful that we can obtain further funding from other organisations but to date we have been unsuccessful. If we relied solely on the Ministry of Health fees we would not be able to continue to offer the high standard and one-on-one care we do presently, if this were the case, we would be forced to cease operating as we believe the children?s welfare is most important.
