Read more about Auckland Kindergarten Association:
The AKA is New Zealand’s largest kindergarten association, and also the largest education provider outside the tertiary sector. There are over 9,000 young children attending 107 public kindergartens throughout Auckland every week, up to 14,000 in a year. The kindergarten service that is provided is of the highest quality and the organisation is widely respected after 100 years of operation in the Auckland community. The AKA values an enriching, safe and dynamic learning environment for children. Our kindergartens are accessible, secular, non-discriminatory, and inclusive of the diversity of the children and whanau who attend. We view children as capable, competent, life-long learners. Children are encouraged to make their own learning choices, problem solve, observe and explore at their own pace, with support from teachers, families/whanau and their peers. We value the importance of child initiated, play based experiences. As an organisation, we acknowledge the dual heritage of Aotearoa/New Zealand, and uphold the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We value ongoing partnerships between families/whanau, teaching teams and management. The AKA values the ongoing learning of teachers, parents and whanau. We believe the sharing of knowledge, skills and attributes is fundamental to achieving the best learning outcomes for children. Our commitment to collegial professional time ensures that quality practice is enhanced and that teaching teams have shared understandings. Teacher practice is reflective of current theories of learning and development.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
Research shows that the early years of a child’s life are a critical influence on the child’s lifelong learning and development. High quality early childhood learning experiences lay the foundation for all later learning. Early childhood education contributes to the development of self-esteem, as children gain understanding of their emotions and establish the basis for relating to others. Every year, over 14,000 children benefit from the quality early childhood education that is provided by AKA kindergartens. AKA kindergartens are public kindergartens, so receive some government funding. However, donations from parents/whanau and ongoing fundraising efforts are necessary to make up the shortfall. Support from sponsors and the public are also essential and hugely appreciated. The Sovereign Sunshine donation will help to alleviate the financial pressure that kindergartens face. Without the pressure to continually fundraise and seek additional funding, teachers will be able to continue to focus on teaching the children.
