CCS Disability

Mission: To achieve a better future for disabled people by:

  • supporting individuals and their families to live life to the full in our communities
  • effecting change in communities so disabled people have access to the same opportunities as other New Zealander's

Our Vision: Disabled people are valued participants in society CCS Disability Action started life as the New Zealand Crippled Children Society in 1935 and later became CCS in the 1990's. Both those names served us well but no longer reflect our work with people of all disabilities and ages.

Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:

A Sovereign Sunshine donation will be used to provide short breaks for young people. We will work with each person to help them decide what activities they want to take part in and how this is to be organised. By including a friend or buddy in activities, social networks will be developed. Breaks can take many forms depending on the level of support the individual needs. For some, a break might be a weekend away, for others it may consist of a visit to the movies. Other activities like skiing or snowboarding can be used to involve a wider group of people and at the same time help the young person build relationships with their peers. Should any branch not be able to help provide breaks, funding will be distributed as close as possible on a pro rata basis amongst those that are able to do so.
