0800 What's Up is a free, professional telephone counselling service for anyone in Aoteraroa/New Zealand aged between 5 and 18 years. We are focused on early intervention and prevention, rather than being another "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff".
Paid, trained and closely supervised professional counsellors answer the phones, building resilience in childhood by helping the young callers learn how to solve their own problems.
The average age of callers is 13 years and approximately half are boys.
Non-identifying information is recorded on all calls received. This is published in an annual statistical summary that provides a comprehensive overview of the problems and issues facing the children and young people of Aotearoa/New Zealand each year, as identified by the children themselves.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
0800 What's Up counsellors answer hundreds of calls every day but hundreds more go unanswered. A Sovereign Sunshine donation will help pay the wages for more counsellors and more costs of calls, to enable us to answer more calls from kiwi kids.
