There are many little boys and girls that are forgotten by our social welfare system. Father & Child Trust works with these disadvantaged families and children.
Many organisations also work with families who need extra help and assistance, but Father & Child is the only one that asks 'And what about dad?'
There are many children of 'invisible' fathers: single dads, teenage fathers and many others.  We work to keep dad in the picture.

Our objectives are to:

  1. Build services for fathers not looked after by mainstream system (single dads, teen dads, primary caregivers etc)
  2. Educate service providers to adopt a whole-family approach to services (talks, resources, collaborations etc)

Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:

The Trust has produced a free magazine in 2008 given to fathers, who have just had a new baby, at hospitals in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Funding to continue this has run out in February this year, but we continue to be flooded with requests for more copies from all over the country.

A donation of $15,000 would be enough to ensure that most new fathers in the three main centres would receive the magazine for another five months, by which time we may have found alternative sources of funding.  The magazine's aim is to reaffirm fathers, not lecture.  It contains birth stories, info about parental leave, safety, legal aspects of fatherhood, stories of dads in different caregiving situations, and some interesting articles about research, early childhood development and history of being a dad.

Almost all articles are from non-professional writers, and all writers have donated their time.
