We provide unique People Safety and Successful Communication training. Our specialty is to give every single student the opportunity to experience their own strengths and power of focus.
Teenpower's innovative approach with professionally coached, carefully formatted, and success based body memory training teaches youth to focus on what they CAN do in challenging situations, with positive strategies, communication and action.
Our vision is a New Zealand where people from all walks of life are empowered to participate safely and confidently in their communities. We have taught over 20,000 people in New Zealand from all walks of life since 1993. Worldwide over 1 million have been trained through the international non-profit organisation.
The NZ Police Youth Education integrated some of our curriculum into their programme and recommends our programme to schools. Hundreds of success stories and several independent evaluations show that a few simple skills can prevent violence and abuse and improve young people's relationships and lives on many levels.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
Your donation will help us take the next step, secure and increase programme delivery for youth at risk and serve at least 500 young people throughout New Zealand, helping to raise their self esteem and teaching them valuable life skills. The need for positive People Safety education is pressing. Those who experience abuse or violence have higher rates of health problems, low self esteem and fewer strengths or support factors, i.e. lower rates of getting on well with their family, feeling part of their community, or feeling that they could "make it through" a tough time. They have higher risks of depression and suicide attempts, as well as higher rates of regular use of alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes.
Bullying is a significant risk factor for escalating criminal behaviour, poor physical and mental health and poor performance at work or in school. Preventing bullying reduces the social and economic costs of physical injury and mental illness.
Our programmes are very well suited to addressing some of the challenges faced by parenting teenagers. The skills taught include learning how to be confident in themselves, how to take charge of their own safety and how to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations. As Robyn Scott, Lead teacher at Taonga Education Centre Teen Parent Unit, Manukau City said, “We were very impressed with the programme…The programme empowered students and enhanced their confidence. I would totally recommend this programme to any other school or group involved with young people and will certainly be booking it again in the future.”
A donation will make a real, positive impact because we have now reached a point where our small organisation struggles to meet growing demand and needs to build capacity and train more instructors. A donation will ensure that we can uphold our policy to never turn a teenager away for lack of money while we grow the organisation's capacity.
