Read more about Attitude:
Attitude is the youth education division of Parents Inc. Based on credible research, excellent information and a wealth of experience with young people, Attitude programmes are making a difference in the lives of teenagers.
Last year Attitude delivered 1626 presentations to over 183,000 young people throughout New Zealand. The key life messages that are communicated in Attitude resources are essential to equip teenagers with the life skills and insights necessary for them to build a meaningful future. We are committed to encouraging a generation of young people to be motivated, creative, confident and able to contribute positively to New Zealand's future.
Unfortunately the youth of today seem to be struggling. Suicide, sex, drugs, alcohol and a lack of direction are robbing our young people of their true potential and an exciting future.
Attitude, as an organisation, provides a package of resources for New Zealand high schools, designed to encourage young people to make choices that will keep their options open for a great future. Our resources have been uniquely designed as a preventative strategy to suicide, teenage pregnancy, depression and apathy, some of the key problems plaguing New Zealand's young people. The resources include Attitude presentations, handbooks, lesson plans for teachers and a website.
Below is some feedback we received recently from our external evaluation about how our presentation helped two students (please note that spelling and grammar are not edited):
“I think now im going to try and have fun in other ways instead of alcohol. and before the presentation i probally would have tried drugs but now that i can see what they actually do i dont think i ever will even think about it. It also helped that the guy was young so we related to him more than someone that was really old.”
“in the past i have been the child at school that always got into trouble, always got into fight, kicked out of the classroom etc. this presentation made me see that this wasnt the direction that i wanted to go in. i didnt want to be that person anymore and that i wanted everyone to see the true side of me, the caring, hardworking side. it made me realise that i had everything infront of me to make something out of myself and that i had been wasting it all along. so i now know from now on, i will make sure i show everyone this. and prove to all the teachers and my parents that i am going to change.”

To provide, free of charge, one of the seven different Attitude presentations to 86 high schools in the greater Auckland region.
The Attitude presentations available include:
- Attitude: Students are given ideas on how to 'build' a life with meaning, inspiring them about their future and all the possibilities it could hold. It introduces the Attitude booklet, which covers the keys to mental health, and how to handle stress, anxiety, anger and problem solving. It majors on the 'life messages' teenagers need to grow mental and emotional resilience.
- The ‘X’ Factor: X Factor is all about social skills and ‘emotional intelligence’ – how to cultivate it, how to handle rejection and bullying, as well as keys to building healthy and happy relationships.
- Hardwired: Hardwired addresses the social and emotional reasons young people become involved in drug-taking. It provides the facts about drugs, alcohol and tobacco while also digging deeper to lay out scenarios encouraging teenagers to realistically assess risk and think about possible outcomes.
- The Pits: This presentation attempts to remove the stigma from mental health issues. We examine the various mental illnesses and focus on stress and depression. It gives young people the problem solving and practical skills to get through their bad days and the courage to ask for help when they think they've run out of options.
- Get A Life: Students are taught positive ways of individuating from parents, looking at what sort of parent they want to be in the future and how to learn the skills of a parent-coach. It aims to give insights into their current family dynamics as well as preparing them for future roles as parents.
- Sex with Attitude: Covers the emotional and social aspects of sexuality, and provides a decision making guide to relationships. This presentation covers the benefits of postponing sexual involvement and how to set boundaries, and challenges teenagers to think about personal future options.
- Sex with Attitude Part 2: A guide to getting a healthy relationship started, ideas on how to maintain and keep it healthy, and how to cope with a break up.
