Story Lines

The Storylines Children's Literature Charitable Trust of New Zealand supports and promotes children's literature in New Zealand. It was established by and works alongside the Storylines Children's Literature Foundation, a membership organisation comprised of dedicated professionals in the fields of reading, writing, publishing and literacy who work in a voluntary capacity on Trust activities and the various committees which undertake Storylines' work for children's literature in New Zealand.

Together, the Trust and Foundation members work nationally to promote the value of books and reading for children and young adults, and to support the development of New Zealand children's literature. Storylines is known for its advocacy for children's literature, and for the awards offered to writers and illustrators of, and advocates for, children's books. It also runs a major annual festival to directly engage children with books and with the authors and illustrators who create them; it publishes booklists and newsletters that offer parents, teachers and librarians up to date information for those who are directly working to encourage young readers, and undertakes other initiatives as they arise to excite and enthuse young people about books and reading.

Our website is an invaluable source of reference and inspiration for anyone wanting to know more about New Zealand children's writers and illustrators.

To support costs associated with putting on the free Family Days as part of the Storylines Festival. We do not charge entry for these days, so all children, regardless of circumstances, can attend. This poses us with a huge challenge in sourcing enough funds to run Family Days in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Northland.
