Dyslexia

We are a registered Charitable Trust established to provide a voice for and services to all dyslexic people in NZ and those supporting them. Our focus is to promote greater understanding and acceptance of dyslexia as an alternative way of thinking - one that can offer wonderful creative gifts as well as bringing some significant learning challenges. We want to make New Zealand a place of leadership for supporting people of all ages who think this way.

Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:

We will use a Sovereign Sunshine donation to support our ongoing work, helping people make simple changes to improve the learning, living and working environments for New Zealanders with dyslexia. A big focus for us is our 4D schools programme, which provides guidance on effective action to benefit children with dyslexia, as well as all those with difference or diversity. The programme is based on a ‘notice and adjust’ approach – encouraging teachers to notice where issues are occurring and adjust the classroom environment or teaching style to help children reach their full potential.

Unaddressed dyslexia can cause self-esteem and social issues. However, treated right, it can be an awesome creative force. Children have great imaginations, and dyslexic children are often capable of wonderful ‘out of the box’ thinking that can set them up for great success in life.
