Read more about Cholmondeley Children’s Home:
Cholmondeley Children's Home is a house full of love, warmth and hope. We support the children of Canterbury when their parents cannot. Our children are aged between 3 and 12 years. They come from families with issues ranging from severe illness, substance abuse and addiction, even death of one parent/guardian. Cholmondeley has been supporting the kids of Canterbury for 85 years and we are very proud of the children that leave our care. Some of our staff work 24/7 shifts and they are they relentless in their dedication and commitment to making a real difference to our children's future.
Apart from the first impression of the grand old house overlooking the sea, you're also likely to be greeted by the wafts of home baking from the kitchen. An average of 26 children aged between 3 and 12 stay at our Home for an average of 10 days. Usually around 80% of referrals are from Christchurch, the rest coming from wider Canterbury and other South Island provinces. There is currently a waiting list.
As well as individual support of children and families by our social workers and psychologists, we also run an outreach programme to build up positive ways of parenting children and supporting those who are struggling to cope day-to-day, especially where there is little or no extended family or community support.
