The Kids Foundation is our youth division supporting children, teenagers and their immediate families who are affected by Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders(PID). We also support PID children needing transplants, (for example - Bone marrow or thymus transplants), and those having regular blood transfusions of immunoglobulins. ( PID patients are the biggest users of donated plasma in NZ).Other NZ children we support require Liver and bowel transplants here or overseas.
We provide practical support with health coordinators in direct contact with families .Assistance may include- financial or emotional support, education resources, advocacy, and specialist medical equipment. Sometimes this means a grant to help pay for a specialised piece of medical equipment, or simply someone being available to help families at any time.We help with everyday things like hospital cafeteria and parking vouchers, and extraordinary events like assisting families to travel to hospitals overseas. We build support networks between families with similar disorders, and produce a magazine and website to keep members up-to-date on issues, and medical advances in treatment or diagnosis.
We bring families together for information seminars, and bring doctors together for medical conferences. The Foundation has a calendar of events including family camps, a Birthday Club for PID children, a Sunshine Club for hospitalised children, Christmas parties for members, special events and regular member meetings.

We would like to use this kind donation towards continuing our support services helping these medically fragile babies/children facing life threatening illness, and those requiring / recovering from transplants.
Our health coordinator/support staff visit these families on a regular basis (in hospital and at home) and provide ongoing support, advice and practical financial assistance as detailed above.
Another key strategy to assist , is our respite care programme for families of these medically fragile children. We have four holiday cottages around NZ that we make available for families recovering from long periods of hospital care – to take a much needed holiday together. A time to refresh the whole family, a time of healing and recovery after the trauma of major surgery or chronic illness. All members of these families are affected by the impact of these medical conditions and our aim is to help the family recover together.
