Read more about Koru Care Charitable Trust New Zealand:
Koru Care was established in 1983 with the aim to bring a little bit of joy into the lives of children with terminal illness or permanent disabilities.
Koru Care's first dream delivery involved taking a group of disabled children to the movies. The next venture involved fundraising for two years to take a small group of children to the United Kingdom to see Buckingham Palace and Coronation Street. Other overseas trips followed to Disneyland and Fiji.
Through these experiences Koru Care has recognised that some children are not well enough for long distance air travel. In recognition of that Koru Care introduced a trip to the Gold Coast in 1995 and that trip is now an annual event, along with the popular trip to Disneyland in the United States.
Other annual events include a children's theatre production and a Christmas Cruise.
Taking seriously ill, disabled and disadvantaged children to dream destinations requires the dedicated support of Koru Care volunteers. Each overseas trip involves a group of 26 children and 15 caregivers, including two or three nurses. The caregivers are unpaid and they take annual leave to make the trips possible. Each caregiver has two children to look after 24 hours a day, from receiving the children at the airport to returning them to their families.
Koru Care will also provide funding for children who require overseas medical treatment for complex procedures that are not available in New Zealand and will consider requests to fund educational and play equipment that will benefit children who meet its criteria.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
To help fund our overseas trips for special needs children. Expenses would include air fares, accommodation, theme parks, meals, travel insurance and buses.
