Parents Inc

Parents Inc.’s desire is to see every child raised in a loving, secure and positive environment. Through our range of parenting programmes, we seek to see children reach their full potential by providing parents with the information, skills, strategies and resources to become the best parents they can be. These programmes, tailored to specific communities and needs, include
  • Toolbox parenting groups (a six week small group parenting course)
  • Hot Tips seminars (a range of community wide parenting seminars)
  • No Sweat/Manaki Whanau parenting events (designed for Maori and Pacific communities)
  • The Parenting Place (New Zealand’s first one-stop parenting resource centre offering information and support including a bookshop, cafe, play area, parenting and life skill workshops, parent coaching and friendly, supportive volunteers)
  • Parenting magazine - quarterly magazine (New Zealand’s only parenting magazine for parents of children from 0 – 18 years)
Parents Inc. also provides a range of health education and life skill programmes for high schools, called Attitude, designed to encourage young people to make choices that will keep their options open for a great future.

Parenting is an important topic in New Zealand at the moment, and we believe we are on the cutting edge of delivering positive, high quality messages to help parents on their journey.  By packaging practical parenting skills in an engaging and creative way, our programmes reach all spectrums of society. Our positive holistic approach means we can offer parents, wherever they are on their parenting journey, a Parents Inc. programme that will suit. Through working together with local volunteer committees and training facilitators to ensure ongoing support through small group programmes, our impact throughout New Zealand has been significant.

Our vision is to positively impact every home.

Our mission is to:
  • Collect or create the best ideas about family life and pass them on in a way that is appealing, understandable and relevant
  • Communicate to the whole of society, but especially to inspire parents and equip them with skills and resources
  • Specialise in excellent presentations, characterised by skill, humour and flair
  • Create, publish and distribute quality resources.

Toolbox parenting groups are a unique approach to parent education, offering practical skills and strategies that parents can immediately incorporate into their family. Over six sessions the group explores key parenting principles and picks up practical ways to address problems as well as how to build a great team. Parents leave with a ‘toolbox’ of strategies as well as a sense of optimism and possibility about their family’s future.

There are three Toolbox courses available:
  • Early Years (0-6)
  • Middle Years (6-12)
  • Teenage Years (12+)

Toolbox groups are facilitated by trained local volunteers and usually meet in someone’s home or in a community venue. There is a comprehensive manual, ‘experts’ on video and lively interaction. The information presented is relevant and insightful. Each session leaves participants with a range of activities and strategies to try at home.

This year our aim is to run 335 Toolbox parenting groups in communities throughout New Zealand, directly benefiting approximately 3500 parents and their families. To cover a portion of our costs in running a group we charge each participant a subsidised fee. Parents Inc. would use the Sovereign Sunshine donation to help cover the subsidy we offer, and to offer additional subsidies for those who can’t afford our fees, ensuring accessibility to everyone seeking parenting help and support.
