The Choice Foundation run the StandTall Leadership Programme. StandTall offers lifelong support and resources to intermediate-age NZ children who are financially disadvantaged increasing their opportunities and ability to make choices that will enable them to reach their full potential in life. It focuses on the multitude of career choices that New Zealand has to offer as well as appreciating the wonderful country we live in and teaches all participants that they have the capability to be anything they want to be.
StandTall takes Year 7 & Year 8 children from low decile NZ schools on inspirational and challenging career & education based excursions & a challenging 5 night camp, provides workshops and seminars involving real life concepts and teaching real life skills and completes several projects which assist their local community. The programme is underpinned by the need for goal setting and provides the tools and support to meet these goals for children who don’t experience a world beyond the corner dairy. The programme aims to instill pride, increase confidence and give children who are less fortunate than others the tools, motivation, opportunities and will to succeed.
Without StandTall opening their eyes to the world of opportunity these children could end up in gangs, gain little or no education, struggle to find work and inevitably become a burden on the social service system thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

We would like to expand the StandTall programme into more low decile schools in the Auckland area and beyond. The donation would be used for the development, delivery, faciltation and evaluation of the programme.
