Read more about Counselling Services Centre:
The Counselling Services Centre was set up in 1986 and delivers Counselling and Crisis Support Services. The organization was established to deal specifically with victims of sexual abuse and sexual assault.
Our service has been broadened to include services to those whose lives are affected by: Domestic Violence, Homicide, Relationship Difficulties, Grief, Addiction, Depression, and Anxiety. Our clients are specifically children, families and women. We also work with couples and our referrals come from the Family Court, ACC, EAP and many other sources.
Our Mission We strive to provide a professional and skilled service for the victims and survivors of sexual abuse within an affirmative environment.
We believe that:
- Sexual abuse is an abuse of power using sexual means. It usually results in feelings of degradation, humiliation, self-blame and worthlessness
- The loss of trust and sense of security which results from sexual violation impedes the ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships
- In the sexual abuse of children, the child is never responsible. It is the policy of Counselling Services Centre that all client contact is confidential, but in instances of child sexual abuse where the child is seen as being at risk of further abuse, the interests of the child are paramount. Whatever action is necessary with be taken to ensure the child's safety. This may involve reporting circumstances to the Police or CYF.
- Counselling is the process by which the child is assisted by a trained and skilled person towards reaching a positive outcome to a crisis threatening their wellbeing.
