One idea, five cities and 261 lives transformed. That's the simple story behind First Foundation, a unique educational trust founded to give young New Zealanders, with plenty of talent but few financial resources, a ‘hand up’ to tertiary education.
A First Foundation scholarship is a unique partnership between a Scholar, their Scholarship Partner, Mentor and School, and First Foundation itself. Every scholarship is changing a life.

In 1998, the three inaugural scholarships were awarded in Auckland. Now, 13 years on, First Foundation awards scholarships in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch and 261 students have participated in the programme. First Foundation was named the NZ Trust of the Year in 2008.

For every Scholar we offer a ‘hand up’ there are 3 or more equally deserving Scholars we could have helped. Our aim is ultimately to have more scholarships than students. A donation from Sovereign Sunshine would allow us to expand our Scholarship Partner recruitment programme with enhanced collateral and marketing tools. To date we have worked with 86 New Zealand Businesses to change young people’s lives.
