Lifepaths Charitable Trust is committed to promoting emotional resilience and reducing anxiety in young people. Our programmes help children cope with feelings of fear, worry, and depression by building resilience and self-esteem and teaching cognitive, behavioural, and emotional skills in a simple, well-structured format suitable for their age and development. We currently have four programmes in New Zealand.

Three of those fit under the FRIENDS umbrella and can be used in schools as a prevention and by health professionals as a treatment. They are: Fun Friends - years 4-7 Friends for Life - child years 7-12 Friends for Life - youth years 13-18 Focus is the fourth programme and is used by psychologists and psychiatrists to treat children, youth and adults with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

FRIENDS for Life is run by a school’s own teachers and does not involve any clinical assessment or diagnosis, thus avoiding labelling any specific student in a class as anxious or different. FRIENDS is consistently described as a rewarding teaching experience that encourages the sharing of positive emotions. Students also say they enjoy the programme and find it helpful in their day-to-day lives. In each FRIENDS session, students are guided through a series of class-based activities designed to teach them how to deal with worrying situations. They complete home activities between sessions. Parents have an opportunity to support their child(ren) and learn more about FRIENDS themselves by helping with the home activities, reviewing the student workbook and attending parent sessions that may be arranged by the school. Our programmes are the only such programmes acknowledged by the World Health Organisation for their fifteen years of comprehensive evaluation and practice.

Ultimately The Lifepaths Trust is committed to making a positive difference in young people’s lives.
