Napier Family Centre Vision & Values "We will bring shining eyes to all the children and their families in our community."
Our values of Integrity, Teamwork, Innovation and Compassion drive our decisions and actions. Through Christian love Napier Family Centre provides services valued by families and individuals that help them along life's journey.
Our strategic goals are:
1) to provide excellent, effective, targeted services for our clients,
2) ensure continuity of service delivery
3) provide an environment that encourages staff to maximise their contribution,
4) encourage and nurture the goodwill and trust of NFC supporters, financial donors and the Hawke's Bay public.
History: Napier Family Centre was established in 1983 becoming an incorporated society in October 1984. It was born as the result of a group of leaders of the churches in the community wanting to provide assistance to families struggling in poverty and in poor housing at the time in the inner city areas - a practical expression of Christian service. Rev. Duncan Macdonald in his address at the 20yr anniversary in 2003 remembered how it was to ask others to join in this mission: "It was particularly nerve wracking to ask people to embark on a journey where there is a great deal of vision, but no money, to provide professionally competent services in a number of different areas."
The early services included counselling, playgroups to support solo mothers, social work and budget advice provided by volunteers. These were offered in offices above St John's Cathedral Hall and a childcare facility in Hastings Rd. Under the governance of the BOD of member parishes the services grew steadily and for 24 years Napier Family Centre helped hundreds of families each year through its services at Cathedral Lane, moving in its 25th year to new premises.

We would use the funding for our Youth programmes which attract no government grants. "Love wih Logic" - a Teenage parenting programme that aims to help the young mothers bond with their children and teach them practically how to care and thus prevent neglect and abuse. This is a group programme with in-home follow-up support.
The other areas for help needed include:
- sponsoring children through psychotherapy to overcome trauma, attachment issues, anger and stress
- Youth one-on-one counselling and guidance
- Shining Stars - youth mentoring programme matching at-risk 11-13 year old girls with successful young women in study
