We are a support organisation for foster parents, kinship/whanau carers, grandparent carers, guardianship carers and emergency and respite carers that look after children at risk that are NOT their own between the ages of 0 - 17 years of age who live in the South Auckland /Counties Manukau region. We have been in operation since September 2004. Although very rewarding, care-giving is often a lonely, thank-less and difficult task. It is therefore very important that caregivers feel valued and supportive in whatever way may be necessary. All of our children in care suffer from grief and loss issues. Many are also in care due to family breakdown or abuse of some sort. Happier and better trained caregivers lead to more stable environments for our most needy children or young people within our society.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
We would use the funding to offer more short, specific training sessions geared towards our caregivers and their kids in care. These sessions would be opened up to all caregivers and agencies across the Auckland region in order to reach as many caregivers as possible. Each training session would be free for caregivers to attend and we would offer a creche at every session so that no caregiver will be disadvantaged by cost or children.
