overview We’re passionate about making a difference in our community. Since 2002, we’ve worked with at-risk youth in North Rodney through our alternative education programme and seen many lives transformed. In recent years we’ve added other essential programmes as we seek to meet the needs of children and whanau/families swallowed up in cycles of sexual and physical abuse, drugs, gangs, intimidation, and crime.
We’re committed to delivering holistic, multi-faceted solutions. Following a rigorous planning process in 2008, we launched a range of multi-systemic community services – including our GO180º Youth Offender guidance programme, Da Crew anti-graffiti team and Elevate Family Support service (counselling, parenting programmes and more) – with excellent results.
This year we are excited to be implementing our 4U Mentoring programme for troubled kids, as well as a school values programme and community skate programme.
Our work is rooted in building trusting, long term relationships with troubled children and whanau/families, addressing social, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual needs, helping them take responsibility for their situation and build toward a positive future. We also actively engage the community to meet local needs: through our programmes local employers now provide youth offenders with valuable work experience and volunteer mentors work shoulder to shoulder with at-risk youth, equipping them with work and life skills.
Our strategic collaboration with local police and CYF Youth Justice increases successful outcomes.

Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
If we were to get a donation it would be used to fund the ongoing services we offer. Such as Programme Cost, Operational Cost, Voluteer Cost, Salaries service delivery the need Children and youths who enter our programmes (alternative education, mentoring, or youth offender guidance) typically come from families at breaking point.
In these families we see multiple, complex needs colliding in high stress, toxic environments which urgently need addressing. We often find children violent toward their parents, rampant drug and alcohol abuse, gang activity, kids desperately depressed and experiencing events they cannot process emotionally (violence, rejection, sexual abuse).
Rather than placing more ambulances at the bottom of the cliff, we offer quality support, education and resources, to empower these young people and their families to take responsibility for their situation and build toward a positive future.
Why us? Springboard Community Works has many years experience working with at-risk youth through our alternative education programme, equipping us with a range of skills ideally suited to intervention services. We are respected in the at-risk community as authentic, dedicated people, who genuinely care for their well-being – this provides a powerful credibility platform on which to build trust and influence.
Police have recognised Springboard as a leading agency in the Rodney community and have chosen to partner with us in an effort to reduce crime. Our close relationship with police ensures we are well informed and accountable. In addition, as a respected, known community agency we are able to generate wide support and encourage a community response to local problems. access & numbers Access to our programmes is through referral by Police, CYFS, school authorities, other community agencies, parents, or self-referral.
To date, we have worked intensively with approximately 113 youths and their family/whanau - many of who we still have contact with. In 2009 we worked with a total of 28 youths and their family/whanau, and anticipate this number growing to 75 in 2010 with an increase in referrals and organisational capacity. current premises Our Impact Alternative Education programme is based 6km west of Wellsford (though students come from across the North Rodney region) – we have a long-term lease on the buildings and grounds of a former bowling green. This continues to serve our needs well. Our other programmes are currently run from our homes, with office space provided by a local church.
