The purpose of the stepUP Foundation is to educate and excite teenagers the world over about the possibilities for their futures in business and in life.
We hold 2-day inspirational events which bring together hundreds of teenagers (aged 14-18), with successful entrepreneurs, sporting heros, musicians and other leaders. The teens begin to see that they can overcome life's hurdles, any circumstances they may be dealing with, or the challenges they've already faced in their young lives. In fact, they see that "if it's possible for you, it's possible for me - it's just a matter of how".
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
If stepUP won the donation the money would go straight to where it is needed - providing scholarships to the teens who really want to come along but can't afford $40. Typically we get a high demand to attend our 2 day program from lower socio-economic areas and low-decile schools. StepUP provides scholarship for over 50% of the teens (typically about 400 teens per event). The burning desire and ambition of these young people is remarkable and stepUP does not want to turn away any teen because their parent or school can't pay $40.
We talk about 'what is possible' in stepUP, and we have helped make a positive sustainable, long-term change for so many teens and their families. We don't know what the future holds for the teens who attend our events - one of them could find the cure for breast cancer, another may transform their whole life by making a stand for ending domestic violence in their family. It could be that a teen who was suicidal and felt alone and desperate connected with their coach and makes the decision to live. Or a teen who is excelling already in their life stepUP's to a whole new level.
In NZ we have a major issue with our young people getting involved in gangs, juvenile crime, teen pregnancy and teen suicide and stepUP is positioned to make a difference 'at the top of the cliff' rather than the ambulance at the bottom. We focus on shifting the teenager's mindset and giving them a vision of what is then possible for teens from all walks of life. It's so so important for all teens (14-18) to attend and with support from Sovereign we can shift the future of our young people.
