Can you imagine living in a house with five pregnant teenage girls and a newborn baby? We don’t just imagine it – we live it!. The House of Grace is a home for pregnant teens, providing support and education up to and after the birth of their babies.
Since opening in August 2003, we’ve had teens from all walks of life come through our doors. Some have stayed at the home for the duration of their pregnancy; others have needed advice and assistance. Whether they’ve chosen to parent or adopt their baby out, we’ve provided a supportive home environment to help the girls gain the knowledge required to parent confidently and have healthy, well-cared for newborn babies.
Why do we do it? We have a passion and heart for pregnant teens – to see their lives changed for good and to have purpose and direction in life. The House of Grace is not an institution; it is a family living together. It has a Mum and a Dad, rules, privileges, bedtime, study time, and free time. There is time to laugh and have fun, and time to think and decide. Our programmes include life skills, parenting skills, education programme, counselling, and an aftercare programme for when the teens leave the home (from assistance with items needed for their home and baby, income entitlement through to child health organisations, social outings, and networking past residents to be able to get together and support one another).
Objectives of The House of Grace:
- Provide a home and support to pregnant teenagers.
- Develop life and parenting skills.
- Develop skills to live within a community.
- Ongoing educational development
- A safe environment that helps to meet their physical, spiritual, and emotional needs.
- Aftercare for when they move out of the home and into the community.
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
Pressing repairs to our House, including sealing and painting the concrete exterior, grounds maintenance like fixing drainage issues, and fixing the leaking roof of our garage (used to store baby items)
