Our programme focused on kids is Homecare 4 Kids (HC4K).  We aim to keep children out of hospitals and in their families’ homes which increases survival rates.

Our team vision is to provide optimal quality of life and health for children through helping families/whanau towards self care of their children.

We follow up all premature babies who are discharged from Special Care Baby Units (SCBU) and children who are discharged from Starship following an illness.
We provide clinical interventions in the home for children, so they can avoid hospital visits e.g. IV therapy, oncology medication, respiratory exercises and specialised medical devices.

We support and care for children who have long term illness and disabilities, by providing supplies and equipment.  We provide wound care and can visit children at school if necessary so they don't need to miss their schooling.  We also provide palliative care (care for dying) in the home.  We practice family centred care, recognising the family as a constant in the child's life.

Our mission is to keep children out of hospitals. We believe, and research shows, that children recover quicker and are happier healing in their own homes surrounded by friends and families.

HC4K is a multidisciplinary team consisting of expert paediatric nurses, paediatricians, speech language therapists and dieticians. We also refer to other expert health professionals such as physiotherapists who can provide home cares.  We visit sick children and their families in the home. We see children from 0-16 years of age.
We visit children requiring quite high levels of medical, pharmaceutical, nutritional and nursing cares from Devonport to Te Huna and out on the Matakana Coast through to the Kaipara Coast.

We are currently fundraising to build up a specialised loan service that enables us to loan a wide range of medical & rehabilitative equipment to our children.
Sometimes this equipment may be needed for long periods of time as a child recovers or in the case of terminal illness, passes on.

We would dearly like to be able to supply loaned medical and rehabilitative equipment to enable those especially dependant on medical equipment for survival, to receive it without extra financial burden on already emotionally stressed families.  The equipment would remain owned by the HC4K service and would be for loan only.  Some of the equipment we are fundraising for are items such as monitors, scales, IV poles, carry bags for portable oxygen, pumps, and specialised pressure relieving mattresses.
