Western Bay of Plenty Family and Foster Care Association Inc.

Foster carers are ordinary people doing extraordinary work, caring for some of our Nations most vulnerable children.  This is an extremely satisfying role that is seldom recognised for the value that it contributes to our community.

There are many foster, whanau and kin carers who have committed to the children who come into foster care.  The foster carer shares their homes, their hearts and their family with the children and young people who have been through difficult circumstances.

All foster carers need to be able to recognise the limits of their endurance and strength in a job that can be more often than not very isolated.

Here in the Bay of Plenty we have a committed and supportive group of people that advocate for the right of the foster/whanau/kin carers to receive appropriate training, education and many other supports necessary to enable them to develop safe practice.

The Bay of Plenty Foster Care Association  supports and makes opportunities for foster families to feel part of the local community.  These opportunities enable the children and young people in foster care to develop useful skills, with the encouragment of both their foster family and the wider community.  We endevour to hold coffee mornings, family outings, and celebrations such as Easter, Children Day, Christmas, as well as cultural experiences such as Noho Marae.  We welcome anyone who is involved in or who has an interest in Foster Care, Whanau and Kin care.

We would use the money to directly benefit children who are in foster care in the Western Bay of Plenty. We are currently a very small organisation who are trying to offer supports and networking and extend our organisation. We have very limited funding which is sourced from members fees.

We would love to be able to offer children in care scholarships for the payment of extra curricular activities. eg. swimming lessons, dance and drama. We would like to financially assist our youth with their tertiary education costs. We would use the money to help fund resources for children who have suffered maltreatment and neglect. eg. educational toys, therapeutic equipment etc.

We would also be able to make our events bigger and better for the children in care. eg. For our Christmas Party we may be able to purchase gifts for the children.
