White Elephant (WE) is an important and fun filled youth charity based in Christchurch, and this year offers a great opportunity for you to help support a positively-charged charity while at the same time exposing your business/product to its growing audience.
Established in 2005, WE exists to promote the positive development of young people aged 15-25. WE coordinates and promotes sustainable entertainment opportunities for youth that are socially credible, safe and drug and alcohol-free. What makes WE different is that we're youth-led. We're also non-religious. And we're resourceful - instead of just talking about it, we make it happen.
We find creative, innovative ways for Christchurch youth to have fun, while also contributing positively to their community. WE engages with youth in schools throughout Christchurch and we encourage them to take an active role in the Trust. WE has now been operating for over 3 years, in this time it has secured funding and a premises in central Christchurch as well as earning a reputable name throughout the youth sector. WE-HQ on Bedford Row provide members with a central city youth venue. It's a place where members can relax, find out what's going on in their city and meet like-minded people. As well as providing space for project committee meetings, DJ practice and a media room, the venue also hosts exhibitions and workshops. With the increasing demand coming from youth it is now time for WE to formalise its activities. And with the redevelopment of WE-HQ set for Feb/Mar 2009, re-launch its services to the community. WE is for youth, run by youth and we're taking an active role in our city's response to youth issues.

In 2007 White Elephant ran a youth conference in response to the Edgeware Rd tragedy which claimed the lives of two of our members. One of the calls to action was to create an inner-city venue for youth which WE has been planning for over 18 months now. As a result, WE-HQ is set to be redeveloped and become a central hub and functional resource for the youth of Christchurch. The space will be developed to include the following functional rooms: - DJ practice booths - Production studio - Band practice room and recording booth - Work room - Meeting rooms - Media creation room - Reception area - Chill out lounge area
