Zeal is a team of people commited to the advancement of young people in the creative arts, leadership and education.
We run three types of events:
1. In-schools
- Cutting Edge Leadership Training: A high quality leadership programme for school students teaching them how to lead within their social context.
- School Dances: Zeal resources schools with the equipment, promotion and personnel needed to run safe alcohol and drug-free dance/formal events
- Lunchtime events: Zeal works along young leaders to run weekly lunchtime events that cater for a wide variety of students using music, dance and recreation
- Intervention Programmes: Zeal helps schools to offer health and social services to young people. We currently run three programmes; The Body Project (Eating disorders), The Hendles Project (Anger Management) and Complete Recovery (Addiction Recovery)
2 In-house
- Barista/Coffee Training: On Saturday mornings Zeal works with students from local high schools to train them in coffee making and hospitality to help them secure employment when leaving school
- Hip Hop 101: Working in conjunction with 'The Next' and local activity centers Zeal offers weekly workshops in break-dancing, DJ-ing and MC-ing
- Friday Night Live: Zeal's signature event has been running for over 10 years. Zeal discovers and mentors emerging artists and puts them on their way to start a career in music and recording
- Youth Community Dinners and discussion groups run by our team of volunteers to interact with young people and connect them with services that can help them grow and develop
3 In-partnership
- Zeal works alongside a number of local youth providers to run programmes for young people in Wellington
Winning a donation from Sovereign will help us achieve:
We currently need funds for two major projects:
1. We are relocating to a new building with a 20% lower rental and double the floor space of our current venue. This also gives us the opportunity to collaborate with other youth organisations to become a youth hub. Working smarter, not harder! And this ensures every dollar we receive is used optimally. However, we will have some initial fit-out costs to cover and we desperately need some funds for this
2. We are looking at expanding our Anger Management Intervention course, so we will need funds for a course coordinator/Administrator/course presenter, as well as funds for printing course material etc
