Charity selection criteria
We use these criteria as our guide
To be eligible for Sovereign Sunshine a charity needs to be a not-for-profit organisation or trust, registered under the Charities Act 2005, and have a charitable purpose related to New Zealand children.
We will not fund projects overseas, as we are focused on New Zealand kids. Our funds will only go to registered New Zealand children’s charities, and not to individuals.
Funds received by winning charities must be used to improve the health and well-being of children in New Zealand.
It must be clear who the funding makes a difference to. We prefer funds to go towards a specific project rather than being spent on administration, head office expenses etc. We would like to give our funds directly to charities, rather than contributing to fundraising campaigns run by other third party community groups. We prefer that the outcomes from our donation are measurable, so that the benefits to the recipients are clear.
Shortlisted charities
Charities can be included in more than one category, but shortlisted once a year. All shortlisted charities will receive a Sovereign Sunshine donation, and then become ineligible to be shortlisted a second time during that calendar year. Children’s charities that have already won a donation will continue to be profiled on the site, so that visitors can still read about them, volunteer their time and donate cash directly to the charity.
Sovereign Sunshine will shortlist up to six children’s charities from the featured category for that month. We would like our donation to make the biggest difference possible for kiwi kids, and have a preference for smaller, less well known charities who find funding more of a challenge.
