Sunshine Day
17 August 2010 - This month we’ve been helping the Child Cancer Foundation to provide practical and emotional support to children with cancer, and their families. During our Sunshine Day our finance team coordinated fundraising with a mystery tombola, a luxury hamper raffle, and a lunchtime sports quiz. We were touched by the stories from Jade and Megan of Child Cancer, who visited us at Smales Farm and told of the journeys some Kiwi children go through, bravely fighting cancer. We are proud to be helping Child Cancer, and supporting the fantastic work they do every day in our community.
18 July 2010 - Our July focus has been Kids with Arthritis, and the awesome work they do supporting kids and teenagers across the country. The funds we raised on Sunshine Day will help teenagers with arthritis by helping to fund camps, support meetings, and special events which enable the teens to build strong friendships with other teenagers who understand them, listen and support them. We're very proud to be helping Kids with Arthritis, and helping to make a brighter future for teens with arthritis.
17 June 2010 - We’re delighted to be giving this month's staff and company donations to Cure Kids, helping them invest in scientific research into life-threatening illnesses, which could save hundreds of young lives and improve the quality of life for thousands of children. Since being established 30 years ago, Cure Kids has invested $19 million in medical research, with successes in treating medical conditions such as asthma, childhood diabetes, childhood heart conditions, cystic fibrosis, cot death prevention, liver disease, paediatric cancer, respiratory illnesses, rheumatic fever, and spina bifida.
Thanks again for your May votes. Cure Kids received $3,100 from their share of the monthly vote, in addition to the $3,713.10 donated by Sovereign and our staff.
19 May 2010 - We’re delighted to be giving this month's staff and company donations to Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, to help them build a national support network for grandparents who step in to raise their grandchildren, often due to family break-down. Thanks for your April votes. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren received $4,100 from their share of the monthly vote, in addition to the $5,032 donated by Sovereign and our staff.
On Sunshine Day our teams faced off in a NZ Music quiz at lunch time, and purchased raffle tickets to win one of 11 prizes. We also celebrated Sovereign Sunshine’s second birthday, and shared it with Diane Vivian from Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, who joined us for lunch. We’re proud to be supporting such a worthy cause, and helping to build a brighter future for Kiwi kids.
In addition, five other charities from April also received a share from the $10,000 donation, determined by the final vote count.
18 April 2010 - We raised money on our Sunshine Day on 14th April by baking and selling delicious morning tea treats prepared by our Workplace and Actuarial chefs, and holding raffles and tombola prize draws. The funds raised by staff were matched by Sovereign. Tina and Lizzie from North Shore Riding for the Disabled visited us at Smales Farm at lunch time, and told us about the 54 groups across New Zealand, the 3,000 riders, and the huge team of 1500 volunteers who make the programmes possible. We’re proud that our donations will help train the volunteers across the country who lead the therapy for the children.
